Rogue Perfumery Jasmin Antique Review

Now is the time that I should get a move on with a perfume review. After last post's freak out with the no 5 extrait price (which is still ridiculous), I needed something to take my mind off of it.

I am in the beginning of this heatwave. We closed up the house and turned on the air conditioning. We live in the 21st century and why suffer with temps in the 90's when one has air conditioning? The only time that I will be out of air conditioning is if I am going to work and coming home from work. 

I am slowly getting things together for my trip to California. I had to message my doctor for a prescription of nicotine patches (yes, I smoke). My sister doesn't allow smoking, even if it is a vape. So it will be the patch and the lozenge garbage. She said that she quit cold turkey and sucked on a lot of sugar free candy. Well, I am not that kind of girl, I haven't had the desire to quit for good. What is probably going to happen is the moment I get home, I will be lighting up a cigarette. So I will pick up my patches on Saturday along with lozenges and start that stuff on Monday. So I am not that serious about quitting right now. The only perfume that I have committed to taking with me is no 19. I am going to take a travel spray of Infusion d'iris or BDK Gris Charnel. With Gris Charnel it's either going to be the edp or the extrait one. I don't want to take any kind of serious heavy hitters or anything that might scare people away. I would love to take Lyric but that would be a little much and I adore Lyric. But I haven't committed to anything definite yet in terms of vacation perfume. But on to Jasmin Antique.

I was flirting with trying out Jasmin Antique ever since I got the Rogue Perfumery sample set. It smelled really poopy and I wasn't so sure. One day I figured I might as well bite the bullet and just give it a go. I do love jasmine dominant perfumes. It seems like many perfumes can't appreciate how indolic jasmine can be. After working my way through Rogue Perfumery, Rogue Perfumery doesn't seem to shy away from white florals but embraces them in all their glory.

Jasmin Antique is a huge slutty jasmine. At first, I couldn't figure out which perfumes that it reminded me of and then it came to me. The first perfume that came to mind was Sarrasins but without the leather. I did pick up some musk in there but it was mostly jasmine. The second perfume that Jasmin Antique reminded me of was A la Nuit but Jasmin Antique leans more towards A la Nuit than Sarrasins.

What did get me was that I didn't get a whole lot of staying power. I had gotten a shade over three hours but I do have to make some allowances. What I have is a little roller ball sample, not a spray and Rogue Perfumery makes everything an edt. If it were a spray sample I probably could get a better reading. But I will admit that I do love Jasmin Antique and will eventually get a bottle but not yet. With the price of Lutens offerings, I find Jasmin Antique more affordable than Sarrasins or A la Nuit.

 

Rogue Perfume Champs Lumaires Review

 

Rouge Perfumes is my latest perfume house discovery. I have been slowly working my way through my discovery set. I was really starting to get bored with constantly wearing the same 2 or 3 perfumes and needed a break. And since I adore Flos Mortis, I figured that I would give Champs Lumaires a go.

Champs Lumaires is another tuberose heavy perfume. I had initially thought that Champs Lumaires would be a lighter version of Flos Mortis. The tuberose is the only thing that both have in common. Flos Mortis is a raunchy tuberose, Champs Lumaires is a more polite tuberose. But I did notice something a little on the goofy side though. There was a banana chew type note. I wonder if it is the coconut that is giving that kind of vibe or something else. The banana vibe smells artificial and I am going to have to give this another go at a later date.

In other news, partially out of boredom and the other part of curiosity is I was looking at the Chanel website. I wanted to know if Chanel had their no 5 extrait/parfum bottles back in stock. The only version of the parfum version was the grand extrait version. Then I hit the chat button. When asked, I was just told that they do have the grand extrait version for sale and to sign up for the newsletter. My not so hot retort was that not all of us can spend what probably be 2 or 3 months of a mortgage payment or rent on a bottle of perfume. I was looking for just a quarter ounce of the extrait for gifts. I know I am signed up for the newsletter but I am not into the Chance line up and I have enough makeup at the moment. So I am still hoarding what is left of my extrait.

FOMO and BOGO with Some no 5

 

Most of us have dealt with buy one get one free or the whole fear of missing out. And I am sure we have all fallen victim of those things depending on what foods you like to eat, drinks you like and get some, even though you have plenty of those things. But hobbies can be worse in terms of that.

My latest with the fear of missing g out and buy one get one free is the travel sprays of Clinique Happy. I impulsively partook in that sale and added some hair, skin and nails vitamins to ease my mind a little bit. I could have gotten one travel spray and a mini MAC lipstick but wasn't so wowed with the mini lipstick. Ulta does have the buy one get one sales on a regular basis but usually for things that I don't and probably wouldn't use on a regular basis. So it is back on the wagon, even though Bath and Body Works is having a candle sale.

A few days ago, I decided to wear no 5 body products and put a heavy dose of the edp on top of it. I have done this in the past but this time, I really paid attention to it. When I did, I was dumbfounded because all of the body products (bar soap and body lotion) and three healthy sprays was maybe pushing it but I didn't have to work that day so it didn't much matter. The body products amplified the musk and the musk part reminded me of the Bal a Versailles musk. That kind of musk that is only really found in vintage perfumes. The musk also reminded me of vintage no 5. So I wasn't expecting all of that.

I did get a little good news today. My federal tax refund is heading my way. I had gotten my tax refund from the state last week. The bad thing is that I have to use all of that on getting that crown that my health insurance refuses to pay for since it is considered "cosmetic". The too the is behind an eye tooth and is visible, especially when I smile. If this was a front tooth, I probably would have been able to get insurance to pay for a crown. Insurance (even Medicaid, which I have) is pretty funny on what it will cover and what it won't cover. Most of the time, the dental insurance is a joke.But with the tax refund and unclaimed funds check, I can get the crown and plane ticket to California and be okay but still work on saving more money for my California trip.

Rogue Perfumery Tuberose and Moss (short review) and Other Things

Things are not going so well here. Somehow, my mother ended up breaking her brand new cellphone. You have no idea on how happy I was to have insurance on our cellphones. When we headed up to the Verizon store, I figured that it would be just filling out a claim and she would walk out with a new phone. Well I was qrong about walking out with the new cellphone thing. I did have to fill out a claim but the issue that I did have was that a new cellphone would be shipped to our house. We did expect it to arrive by Friday but somehow, there was "severe weather" and there is a scheduled delivery for that phone to arrive tomorrow and this was the notification that I got on Friday. The stupid package is only a half an hour away from where I live. A coworker of mine who lives near that area had said that things were fine over there. So I am none to thrilled with UPS. I am wondering what the real issue with the late delivery is since I don't have issues with UPS deliveries. So when my package comes, the guys at the Verizon store will see what they can do with data from the old phone to her new phone and make this phone function better for my mother.

Same family member somehow scheduled something the same day and time as my dentist appointment for getting the rest of my back teeth pulled. So that meant that I had to reschedule my dentist appointment for later this month. I was not happy and it was a whole week of April Fools. I just wanted to get all of this done and over with and move on. I want my busted teeth out because I am tired of not being able to eat well, I am tired of the threat of an infection or I have some kind of tooth infection. I am tired of being in some sort of pain due to my teeth. Health conditions like this drain energy like it's nothing.

I am still testing out more of Rogue Perfumery's line up and this time around, it's Tuberose and Moss. I wasn't expecting too much. There is a whopping tuberose opening with vintage Mitsouko oakmoss. The oakmoss did die off a little bit but remained pretty steady as the tuberose. I did detect a little bit of a whipped cream smell but the whole thing reminded me of Amouage Jubilation 25, maybe a little less rich and a little less dense. I do like Tuberose and Moss but what keeps me from really loving it is that it is so similar to Jubilation 25. So if Jubilation 25 is out of your price range or just a little too much for you, Tuberose and Moss would be an excellent substitute for Jubilation 25. But I do think that eventually I will end up with a bottle of this, even though I have a bottle of Jubilation 25.

I do have to admit that with the three Rogue Perfumery offerings that I have tried thus far, I find the execution of the perfumes are very good. I think that whomever owns Rogue Perfumery has a vison of to make perfumes like they used to and give mainstream perfume houses the middle finger. I think that I made a wise move to buy the discovery set because I like the concepts of this perfume house I do love the Art Deco vibe of the packaging.
 

Rogue Perfumery Flos Mortis Review

 A couple weeks ago, I had a dentist appointment and the news wasn't good. I am losing pretty much the rest of my back teeth. As far back as I can remember, I have always had dental anxiety. But 10 to 15 years ago, I did start to have some serious trouble with my teeth. The whole teeth were starting to break apart and did have quite a few of my back teeth pulled. What my neurologist failed to mention is how a good chunk of seizure medications cause dry mouth and dry mouth can do quite a number on your teeth. If things like this are talked about well before dental issues arise, I think I might have been able to save teeth. So now I have an appointment on April 2nd for getting those teeth pulled.

For the past week, I have been wearing the living snot out of my decant of Rogue Perfumery's Flos Mortis. Since my love for tuberose is really recent, I have been slowly giving tuberose dominant perfumes either another try or just trying them. So it's Flos Mortis right now. I have a couple other tuberose dominant scents to try out but let's do this one at a time.

I had to give a laugh at the translated name of Flos Mortis. The translated name is flower of death. Unlike De Profundis, which sounds and smells like something sad, Flos Mortis doesn't smell sad. It's a lush, loud tuberose without smelling crude. The indoles are in the tuberose but the indoles don't beat you over the head. Flos Mortis is slutty, just like vintage Bal a Versailles. Vintage Bal a Versailles has no real dominant note that stands out besides the musks and the dominant not in Flos Mortis is tuberose. I do get a little bit of jasmine and leather in this get up but I mostly smell the sluttiest tuberose that I have smelled so far. But I enjoyed my rollerball sample of Flos Mortis to the point of almost using up the whole sample and skipping to Luckyscent to snag a bottle. Spraying Flos Mortis might give me a little bit of a different reading but the rollerball gave me a solid reading. I enjoyed how long this lasted on my skin. The lasting power was at least 6 to 7 hours. The 30ml bottle that I ordered is a little more expensive than the 30ml bottle of Number One Intense but anything under $100 for niche is a bargain.

 

Rogue Perfumery Chypre Siam EDT Review

 Not too long ago, I did buy a discovery set from Luckyscent. It seems like more and more niche perfume houses are offering discovery sets. Discovery sets didn't seem to be as common back when I fell down the rabbit hole. Mainstream perfumes did have some of those mini perfume sets but the ones I mainly saw was from Calvin Klien or whoever made the Curve line up. So it was the low end perfume houses that offered those. But since more and more niche brands are offering discovery sets, I have been more of on the hunt for those. Discovery sets are a little more cost effective than a full bottle blind buy.

So I did decide to bite and get a discovery set of Rogue Perfumery. The price was right for how many of the Rogue Perfumery offerings. I was impressed with the packaging. The very outer part was almost like a jewelry box and when I opened the box, all the perfumes were in a velvet bag with a card that listed all of the perfumes in the bag along with the the notes. What took me by surprise was that the samples were 1.5ml and instead of spray samples, they are rollerballs. Most discovery sets that I have gotten were either dabbers or spray decants so this was new territory for me.

The first one that I pulled out was Chypre Siam. I did get a little bit of lime but then the mossiness from the oakmoss hit. And the oakmoss component is huge in this one. One would think that with a more realistic oakmoss smell, it would be a vintage Mitsouko. But the longer that this was on my skin, I was wondering and asking on where have I smelled this before. Then it came to me. It was like vintage Mitsouko and vintage Obsession got together and Chypre Siam was the end result. Once I made the association, I couldn't smell much else, even after two seperate wearings. With a rollerball application, the projection is probably not as strong as a spray. But with this being an edt formulation, I got a solid 7 hours out of Chypre Siam.

Would I ever get a bottle? I don't know, the Rogue Perfumery prices are reasonable (in terms of niche) when I go to Luckyscent. But I am going to see how the rest of the discovery set plays out. But I am really interested in the rest of the set due the fact that this is a perfume house that thinks more outside the box.
