Nasomatto Narcotic V Review

I've never been the hugest fan of any kind of tuberose dominant perfume. The lone exception to that has been Andy Tauer Tuberose Sotto La Luna. There has always been something about tuberose that has always been too much. I don't mind any kind of skank in perfume and quite enjoy skank in perfume but most of the time, tuberose rubs me the wrong way.

For the longest while, I have been wanting to try out Nasomatto's Narcotic V. For some strange reason, I keep thinking that the narcotic part of the name is necrotic. Maybe because those two words are close. I bought Nasomatto Nuda blind and when I found out that Nuda was going to be discontinued, I snapped up a back up bottle. I do adore jasmine dominant perfumes but not so much when it comes to tuberose.

I blind bought a bottle of Narcotic V and blind buys are not a good idea when the price point is a little on the high side. But I figured for $185 for 30ml of extrait de parfum, the price tag wasn't that bad. So price points can be relative when it comes to concentration. When you consider the Chanel priced for extrait, Narcotic V is a bargain.

When I first put on Narcotic V, it's a massive blast of tuberose with crushed greens. After a few minutes, I get some hints of jasmine but the most dominant part is the tuberose. The tuberose isn't the tuberose of Fracas and Fracas is the queen of all tuberose perfumes. I had no illusions that Narcotic V was going to be anything but quiet. It's a louder perfume and would be migraine inducing if sprayed lavishly and worn is close quarters as well. This is something that I wouldn't wear to work.

At the end of the day, I kind of like it and might be coming around to tuberose. Would I buy this again? Probably not, but I don't regret getting a bottle of it. You don't need to spay a lot on, just a teeny spray to get you through the day. Now if Nuda were brought back, I would be pretty happy.

Bottle Size

I did do a few of the responsible things that I said that I was going to do as much as I wanted to spend all of that refund money on fun stuff. I will admit that I did go a little overboard with some of the fun stuff. Most of the time, this is the time of year that I do kind of go overboard with some fun stuff. But party time is over and it's back to watching what I spend. I've got a trip to California to save up for.

But since I have done something in regards to the whole Guerlain teardrop bottle, I've gotten to really thinking about bottle sizes. Even though I am going with smaller sized bottles, there is something oh so satisfying about having a large bottle of perfume. I am not talking about the 100ml sized bottles and those can be nice. I am talking about those bottles that are over 100ml. Just gazing at a large bottle of perfume amuses me for some reason. Why else would I buy a large bottle of anything unless it was a major love? Vintage Bal a Versailles is one of those along with Mitsouko come to mind with major love.

It's fairly rare for any perfume company to sell any perfume that is over 100ml. I don't see it that often, even online. Sometimes I wonder with those large bottles of perfume on who those bottles are really meant for. Are they meant for people who can spend cash for a large bottle or those who only wear 1 perfume. Those large bottles are probably not really meant for us perfume nerds. I've spent boatloads of cash on perfume and honestly don't need anymore let alone a huge bottle of anything. But I have managed to check off a few things that I have been wanting for quite a while. I still have some perfumes that are still on my to buy list but those are going to have to wait.

Traveling and Perfume

I am still struggling with the tail end of my sinus infection. The thing that's killing me right now is the whole post nasal drip thing. I will be finishing up the medication for it by tomorrow morning.

There is some good news on the financial front. I managed to get a hold of the state refund and just waiting on the whole federal refund to hit my bank account. I did some sensible things like paying my cell phone bill, grocery shopping and knocking down some of that Afterpay balance.

Sometime this year, I am making some plans to go to California to see some relatives. I don't know exactly when I will be going but I am going. I had to put a boundary down saying that I will not be staying a full week. More like 4 days. Travel is expensive and I don't exactly know what is going to happen in terms of finances but I am doing some saving to get it done.

Every time that I have traveled, I've never been too concerned with what I will be wearing in terms of clothes. I will check the weather forecast and be done with it. I am more interested in traveling with perfume. The last time I had to travel was to Texas for a wedding and that was 5 years ago. With the Texas travel and now going to California, I have to worry a little bit about what TSA would do. When I flew to Texas, I only took a bottle on no 19 edt and it wasn't an issue. When I went to Hawaii, I wasn't a perfume freak. As you can tell, I don't fly much or travel in general. I am debating on if I should take 1 or 2 bottles of perfume or 1 bottle of perfume and a travel spray. All the decants that I have gotten from STC and TPC are just going to have to stay home. What seems to be on the short list right now is Prada's Infusion d'Iris, Chanel no 5 and Shalimar. I don't want to take anything too edgy or strange nor do I want to take anything that would be too much, especially if it is going to be hot out there. I am leaning towards taking a bottle of Infusion d'Iris and a travel spray.

This time of year is the only time that I do spend some serious money on perfume. It's the time of year where I do have some discretionary spending money for perfume. I have spent some money on getting another back up bottle of Infusion d'Iris and a mini of Sundowner and Phi Une Rose de Kandahar and another back up bottle of Worth Courtesan. The prices were right up my alley and I think that I might hold off on another bottle of perfume. I haven't made any kind of definite decisions at this point. I just would like to have those packages come in and see how I feel.

Still Sick and Taxes

Now my head cold has been upgraded to a sinus infection and an ear infection. The ear infection thing is a new thing to me. I usually do the bronchitis and sinus infection route. I haven't had an ear infection since I was 12 and that was 28 years ago. So I started some antibiotics and my ass is getting kicked right now due to the whole thing.

Last Sunday, I figured that I would just bite the bullet and file my taxes. Since the Covid tax stuff has ended, my tax refund is going to be smaller, even by pre-pandemic standards. But I am happy that I am getting a refund.

I do have plans for that cash. Paying my cell phone bill early, some groceries, pay down Afterpay and get a bottle of perfume. The short list is Gris Charnel, PHI Une Rose de Kandahar and Au Coeur du Desert. I haven't made a decision yet, the money has to be in my account first before I can go make one. What I hate the most about filing taxes and getting a refund, is the waiting. The IRS has a lovely little thing where I can track my tax return progress. The worst part of that is the "return received" part. I wait days and check at least two or three times a day to see if I get to the approval part. When it comes down to the approval part, I have a date on when that money will be in my bank account. It's just the waiting thing that really makes me anxious. Maybe because I am so used to getting paid every week and with the refunds, there is no date on when that money will be in my bank account.

Patience has never been a virtue of mine, it never was a virtue. This is one of those things that I would rather have now so I can really start shoring up some things. It's just going to be a rough couple more days of checking to see what the story is. But I do know that another bottle of no 5 is not on the table.
