End of Vacation/Summer and Sundowner Review

So, my vacation is just about over. I reason I say it is just about over is that I have to go back to work tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it. Did I make any progress with binge watching Grantchester? Nope but played a fair bit of Halo Campaign Evolved. I did go to that Rob Zombie concert on Wednesday. Four bands in a single concert was a little too much. Orgy was absolute garbage, The Hu's instruments was drowning out the singing and Mongolian throat singing is pretty deep sounding, Rob Zombie was just too much for me. Marilyn Manson became a big thing when I was in middle school and never got around to listening to him, I was starting to get into the Smashing Pumpkins then. But holy shit, was Marilyn Manson good. He was the one that really impressed me. I would go and see Marilyn Manson in concert again but not when there are 3 other bands performing.

There were some minor mentions on the Perfume Posse about L'Heure Bleu and did see what the bottle looked like. I had initially thought that Guerlain had just did something with the bottle, but this is pretty much a whole new perfume and I thought that there would be more of the traditional Guerlain offerings at Ulta. You know, something Like Apres L'Ondee, or maybe Mitsouko but nope, just this strange version of the original L'Heure Bleu. L'Heure de Nuit was a homage to the original and you could smell it. I had almost wasted my Ulta rewards points on a 1 ounce bottle but didn't. It was 2 in the morning and that is when I lose a lot of things, like restraint and reading compression. But somehow managed to not go through with it. I would like to get some kind of sample first before I commit. So I backed out of that purchase.

I didn't drag anything that I haven't worn in forever out nor did I go wearing Cheirosa 62 or Infusion d'iris. The most notable thing was that I wore was Andy Tauer Sundowner. I do think Sundowner is not really a great name for a perfume, it conjures up the memories of my grandmother sundowning when the dementia was quickly becoming apparent to the world. But I did spend time wearing at least 1 new thing and now reviewing it.

Sundowner is definitely a Tauer offering. I noticed that the Tauer base seemed to be a little bigger than I remember but it has been a long time since I have worn any kind of Tauer offering often enough. The notes that really stuck out was the cinnamon and the chocolate. I will admit that I am not so sure that I like cinnamon as a dominant note in perfume but I have never liked chocolate as a perfume note. I want to eat my chocolate and not wear it. It is I just can't make heads or tails of this one right now and will probably have to give this another go before a proper review can be done.

Let's Talk Mascara

I don't talk about makeup a lot and it's very rare that I deviate from what I like. Mascara is one of them.

For a long time, any drugstore brand of mascara would do. Then I discovered Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara at Sephora and I was hooked. No other mascara made my lashes look anywhere near as good. They looked fuller and longer. Mind you, I had never spent so much cash on a tube of mascara and I don't think I will ever quite get used to the almost $30 for a mascara. This is coming from someone who has spent tons of cash on Amouage perfumes.

On Sunday, I had a Mannheim Steamroller concert to attend too. I couldn't for the life of me find a tube but managed to find a mini tube of the Better Than Sex waterproof mascara. I've never tried any kind of waterproof mascara in my life and it was going to be the first time ever using it. The mascara did what I expected it to do but holy shit, the mascara didn't want to come off my lashes until today. I did notice that when I was putting on the mascara, that it had a bit of a funny smell to it. The funny smell wasn't horrible or stick around, it just was a little odd to me.

I was having a little trouble with picking out a perfume for Sunday's concert. The concert was more of a classical type of Christmas music type of deal and I wasn't going to bust out any of my heavy perfumes or go spraying some on. I was looking for something more subdued and more of what people are more used to smelling. I could have dabbed on Jicky or Shalimar or I would have went with no 5 or no 19. In the end, I went with the no 22 extrait. The more I thought about things, Shalimar extrait probably wasn't the greatest idea any more than me dabbing on Sarrasins. I didn't want to go scaring the locals and it wasn't a rock concert. When I went to the Rammstein concert, I remember wearing Sarrasins and when I went to see Santana, I wore Coromandel. It's just a constant game of what is appropriate in any given situation. There are some people that just don't give a shit and will wear a cloud of Obsession to a funeral (never experienced it but heard some stories). When I am at home or have a day off and not going out or will be out for a couple hours, I'll wear what I want.

Rammstein concert

This is not gonna be much of a perfume post because I haven't worn anything new to review. On the 6th of this month, I went to see Rammstein in concert in Detroit. They did have one here in Cleveland but tickets were not available. I think that the whole issue was radio station, even though they are not supposed to, bought up blocks of tickets. As soon as I saw that Rammstein was touring North America for the first time in about 10 years, I did buy tickets. It was a three and a half hour drive to and from Detroit. The long trip both ways was worth it. I've been dragged to two Transiberian Orchestra concerts, kicking and screaming. Even though both bands have tons of pyrotechnics, Rammstein's show is much better. When I saw TransSiberian Orchestra, I have already heard two weeks of nonstop Christmas music, I didn't want to hear anymore. During the trip up, I was debating on which perfume to wear. I ended up bringing six decants with me to try and decide. I ended up choosing Cuir de Russie and have broken my record. Instead of wearing a single perfume for two days straight, I've worn it for four days straight. But today is different, because I want to wear something different.
