Perfume and Being Sick

Somehow, I got some kind of summer crud that is going around work. I've had this garbage since Friday and I sick and tired of not being able to sleep due to all of the coughing. It's got to be all of the post nasal drip. No matter how many nedulizer treatments, blowing my nose or coughing up crap I do, I still end up coughing the night away. It's the wheeze when I am not coughing that really annoys me. I also am doing the cough suppressant stuff and sleeping with two pillows to no avail.

Even though I am getting my sense of smell back, I still don't really want to wear perfume. Most of the time, the only perfume that I want to wear and can wear is Chanel no 5 edt but I don't even want to wear that. My asthma doesn't seem to want to behave to well so I shouldn't even attempt any kind of perfume. I have already taken a couple days off from work that I probably shouldn't have but I don't really want to end up in the ER due to my stupid asthma.

With my birthday coming up in a few days, I'm really holding off on another full bottle of perfume. I put a freeze on Afterpay and is going to remain that way until it's paid off. I am probably get a few decants from STC or TPC. I haven't made decisions yet, I'm just trying to kick this whole cold bushiness.

Sick and no 5

Thanks to my parents, I have their cold thing. I hate being sick. The whole nose being stuffed up, not being able to smell or taste shit isn't that great. That makes sleeping rougher than it needs to be especially. Some people are naturally mouth breather but I am not one of those. I was starting to want to take a perfume for a test drive but had to pick up my parents' cold. So reviewing anything perfumed is out of the question. In the meantime, I will be in many variations of Chanel no 5.

Even when I am not sick, I love Chanel no 5 in many of it's variations. The only flanker of Chanel no 5 is L'Eau. There is nothing in L'Eau that would make me think of no 5. Eau Premiere is a lighter version of no 5 but a still recognizable as a variation of no 5.

Today I am currently in no 5 Sensual Elixir. I am not quite sure why this version of no 5 was discontinued. For the life of me, I can remember when exactly it was discontinued and all of the sizes but I know they had larger sizes than the bottle that I have. I probably should have gotten the largest available bottle that they had and at least got some kind of back up bottle of it. Now if Chanel can keep the gold body oil in stock, I would be a happy camper. I never can seem to get my hands on a bottle of that stuff.

Being Sick and Perfume

Ever since Wednesday, I've had some strange head/chest cold thing going on. It's not fully in my chest and not quite a head cold but somewhere in between. Along with that, my asthma is acting up. So the past couple days, I've been binge watching Chicago Fire. So far, I am on season three. Since my cold thing is breaking up and the asthma getting out of line, I've been limited to what I can wear. My collection is full of heavy hitters and some powder bombs. I have found a tiny handful that work for colds. I want to wear something but can't wear something that's just going to aggravate the asthma and make me feel worse.

1. Jicky- is great for the beginning of a cold. Something but not too much. I find Jicky to be one that you have to dump at least a quarter of a bottle on before it's too much. I don't have extrait so I can't comment.

2. Noontide Petals- I'm still not exactly happy that this one has been discontinued but work when things are starting to break up a little bit. Still gentle enough to not annoy the asthma.

3. Sarrasins- When your cold is really starting to break up and want to wear something a little more out there. I just dabbed some on even though I wish that the bell jars would have a spray mechanism.

Tomorrow, I am going to give vintage BaV a go and see how it works while plotting my next full bottle purchase. I am looking at the full bottle list and trying to decide on which one is going to be my next to be added to my stable. I keep coming back to Liu and SDV as the ones that I want to get. The drawback to me is the price. I keep asking myself on which one do I love more. I find that paying $280 for a shade over 4 ounces is a little more cost effective than say paying $260 for 2.5 ounces. This debate is raging in my head for years and can't make up my mind at this point. I hope that I can make up my mind soon.

Out Sick

I just love being sick with a head cold. Can't breathe, can't taste anything, and definitely can't smell a damned thing. Well, I can only catch whiffs of things once in a great while but it's still not fun. I don't exactly have a perfume I wear that I wear only when I am sick. But I'm definitely not trying anything new when sick nor am I wearing my expensive stuff.

But being sick and not being able to smell can have advantages. No smelling of the Bath and Body Works garbage that I smell on teen girls nor the Axe stuff on guys. But it means that I can't really smell my own perfume. I do have some perfumes that I wear quite often when I do have a head cold. I do wear Lolita Lempicka or Jicky when I get sick. Jicky because it's somewhat inexpensive and I don't exactly have to worry about over applying. Lolita Lempicka, I am a little more mindful because it is stronger but not so mindful because it's practically free in my books. So I'm hoping that this cold can clear up soon because I would like to get the show on the road with getting some perfume reviews done.

Gone on Long Enough

I've been sick for 7 days now without being able to smell much at all. That means no enjoyment of the perfumes that I love and the potential to find a new love out of my huge pile of untested perfumes. For the past couple of days, I have been draining and do have some ability to smell, but not enough to try anything new. Being sick, I have to avoid anything that is "perfumey". Mitsouko isn't happening, any Amouage perfumes, and many others like it bring on a long coughing fit. Le Labo Labdanum 18 and Chanel no. 22 are the only ones working right now. Even though I really can't smell them that well.

Since it is the holiday season, my email in box is overflowing with deals. Some of them are not even deals at all. Free shipping? Most have just lowered the threshold that is required to get free shipping. Ten or twenty percent off my order? That doesn't exactly thrill me. Buy one, get one is where my interest is increased. About half the time, the percentage off just means that I pay next to nothing for shipping. Thus far, in my Christmas shopping, I've bought all I've needed for my two nephews, got two small gifts for my parents. All I have left to get is the rest of my parents' gifts, get something for my grandmothers and I'm done.

But I am kind of cursed with the family that is hard to shop for. It's either I can't afford it, almost impossible to find or they have everything. I'm one of those people who are not willing to spend money on cousins and many aunts and uncles. No matter what I say to them, I'm not about to spend $150 a piece.

Sick and Bookish

Being a perfume fanatic and having a head cold do not mix well. Not being able to smell or taste much of anything since Wednesday is a real drag, so my Guerlain Jicky EDT was done with lots of nose blowing and memory. I was hoping to test one perfume and review that along with Jicky.

Every time that I do get sick, I get pretty bookish. Before I fell down the rabbit hole of perfume, I was an avid book collector. I wasn't collecting these really rare or very old books, but every time I was at Borders, I was easily spending $125 on new books. Now since Borders has closed, I don't have bookstore near me. And I find that sad that there are not that many bookstores around to just hang around in. I've managed to order 4 new books for a really decent price.

What is pretty sad is that there are very few brick and mortor bookstores. Barnes and Noble is probably the only national chain left. I've never been much of a Barnes and Noble fan. Prices at Barnes and Noble have always seemed to be on the steep side. It's paper and glue and they mark the price up $3 or $4 more than the listing price. With Borders, you didn't have the sky high pricing of Barnes and Noble. With Barnes and Noble, I've never had seen the selection like I would at Borders. Yes, 9 times out of 10, Borders not only had better pricing but a better selection of books.
