Still Got Nothin'

I still don't want to try anything new and I especially don't want to blog about it now. What I think that I am trying to do is finish a bottle of something or try and use what I've already got. It's not exactly a bad thing to not be trying anything new or buying any more perfume right this second. I am somewhat being forced to enjoy what I already have. I have decided to limit myself to limiting when I can or will buy full bottles of anything. I'm having some pretty decent success with limiting the times of year that I do buy a full bottle. The limits are tax season, my birthday, and the Christmas season. I have the option of buying a perfume or not but in the past couple years, I've only gotten three bottles and I'm happy with that.

My latest obsession is nail polish. Now it seems like I have a million bottles of nail polish running around and some of those are multiple bottles of the same color. I am an OPI devotee and twice a year they release a collection. It's very rare that I love enough of a collection that I actually get the whole collection. But if I find a polish from a collection that I like I always end up getting 3 bottles of said color. OPI probably always takes the top two best sellers and decides which one goes in the permanent collection. I don't slavishly wait for the next seasonal collection to be announce. I make and effort to go and use what I have and then maybe go looking for what the latest collection is. So I do end up missing collections an I am okay with that.

Another Year

It's the new year and all. I'm hoping that this year is going to be a little different. Well, it is going to be different in a few ways. I'm starting to fix up my teeth at the dental school. So that means that I have to cut way back on perfume. Do I know how far back? No, all I know is that I have to cut back on the decants and bottle, vintages or new. I'm typing this as I am looking at the first perfume decant purchase to arrive of the year. Let's going to say that this is going to be a tough year. I'm thinking that it will be super tough in the beginning.

So this resolution thing is not what I had exactly in mind and I don't normally make them. That makes it harder to stick to a resolution. What is probably going to happen is that I am going to set up some sort of perfume allowance. I'm wondering if it should be the kind of allowance of $15 or $20 a month and get Surrender to Chance gift cards. I think that I will do that and let that build up. Then when a sale hits, I can rest easy knowing that I've been good. I'm also hoping that this will get me going on that bag of untested decants and I will be forced to actually blog about perfume than just generally blogging about it. That's why I started to do this whole blog but I have gotten away from that and need to get back into the habit of reviewing perfume.

I do think that this might be the year of nail polish for me. Nail polish is cheap compared to perfume, so I'm thinking that nail polish should get thrown onto the blog as well. I'm not exactly sure yet but changes are grudgingly being made.

Nail Polish

I had so many ideas on what to blog about but my mind kept going back to nail polish. Probably because I didn't have a thing to say about perfume today.

With my nails, I have always gone through always having them polished or not having them polished. But there was that time that I did have gel nails. But having gel nails only lasted 6 months because it was time consuming and expensive. So after that, I left my nails alone for a while. But I do have my favorite colors and brands.

OPI at the end of the day, has to be my favorite brand hands down. It seems to be the best bang for my buck at the end of the day. I've tried many different lines and colors and many of them seem to pale in comparison to OPI. With OPI, more often or not, I can get away with one coat of nail polish and maybe a top coat (if I remember)
and I am good to go for about a week and a half. OPI always seems to have the greatest names for their nail polishes. My ultimate favorite line or collection from OPI has got to be the Russian Collection and the German Collection is a close second. But my three favorites from OPI are An Affair in Red Square, Don't Pretzel My Buttons and Do You Lilac It?

At this time. I am testing out the Essie line and I am finding it wanting. I can't remember the red that I tried for the wedding that I had to go to in Texas but it wasn't pretty. For starters, I've never been a fan of the type of red that has pink under or overtones and it was that way. One coast of this red wasn't enough, it was streaky and I didn't have enough time to do a second coat. It caught me by surprise that a red would be streaky because I have never had that issue with a red before. I would have expected that with a pale shade of nail polish and not with a red or a dark color. Then a three days ago, I tried Essie's Lilacism. And lo and behold, it was streaky and took my three coats to make it look nice as opposed to the red. It is a nice shade of lilac but I prefer OPI's Do You Lilac It? Just due to the fact that I'm not one to enjoy a super pale nail polish. I have noticed with the Essie nail polish is that even after three coats, the nail polish is peeling off. I probably will not be getting any more of the Essie line. For the price tag, I do expect a little better.

I'm Back

Well, I am back from my vacation and it's time that I start blogging again. While on vacation, I didn't get one chance to do any kind of sniffing at any store, nor go to a flea market to look for any vintage bottles of any thing. So I was surviving on no. 19 edp and a decant of Iris Silver Mist. I kind of forgot and decided not to take Theorema with me. I didn't take Theorema with me because I was really craving no. 19 and Silver Iris Mist. But half way down to Virginia, I realized that all I had for perfume was a bottle of no. 19, Silver Iris Mist and vintage Mitsouko and I had a whole week that I had to live with one bottle and two decants. About half way through my trip, I did tire of iris and wanted my orientals and aldehydes but was stuck with what I had brought with me.

But after having to run to Walmart with my sister and helping her pick out a new nail polish, it hit me that I wanted to start wearing nail polish again to quit biting my nails. And picked up OPI's Do You Lilac It. So I am starting to really get into OPI's German collection from two years ago. But from comparing Do You Lilac It and An Affair in Red Square, it seems like the quality of OPI has gone down a little bit. I could go a week and a half without chipping with the older stuff but only a couple of days with the new stuff. But I love a lot of OPI's names for different colors and a couple of their collections (Russian and German collection).
